It&#039;s described as having been near to Tilly-sur-Seulles...<br />
<br />
And I wondered - haphazardly if the Tac square might have been originally &quot;yellow&quot; <br />
<br />
There seems to be a 52 on one tank and a 54 on another.<br />
<br />
Not sure if this picture is well known? I&#039;d expect it to be. <br />
<br />
It&#039;s a pity that it was not originally better described and referenced but I&#039;d still like to figure out what I can about it if anything is currently known?<br />

      <content:encoded><![CDATA[Hello, I am looking for information on the actions of the 315th Infantry 79th Division.  My former neighbor in Savannah Georgia, USA had a brother who fell on August 28, 1944 during operations on the drive to take and hold the Seine bridgehead.  Lt Alfred McPeters C company was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for that action.  I believe Lt McPeters fell in the vicinity of Mantes Gassicourt.<br />

Just found <a href="http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/C4301492" target="_blank" class="externalLink" rel="nofollow"><span style="text-decoration: underline">this</span></a> reference on the UK National Archives site to production documents for a Central Office of Information film titled &#039;<b>By Sea and Land (a Royal Marine patrol in Normandy) 1944</b>&#039;<br />
<br />
As far as I can make out, the file does not hold a copy of the actual footage (if indeed the film was ever made).<br />
<br />
Anyone know if this film, if made, survives today?<br />

I&#039;m taking family from the US to Normandy for the first time in August and will be focusing on the area behind Omaha beach specifically the 16th Inf Regt, 1st Inf Div area.<br />

I just received my order from Amazon UK and the book looks very interesting. Lots of the photos covered that I&#039;ve seen here and elsewhere. What is a little disappointing is that many photos are not &#039;localized&#039;, i.e. there is no description of where they were taken.<br />
<br />
But all in all a great book to complement my ever growing collection.<br />
