So I came across this photo of a Horsa Glider with the Chalk #31 painted on the side of the fuselage. The big bold type font used reminds of the others from the 436th Troop Carrier Group where there is a dot below the number. Unfortunately I can't see a dot but the area is in shadow so it could be there. Has this photo been seen before? I can't recall seeing this one. Neil.
Hi Neil, Great Photo !!! The photo I have never seen before, but I believe we have this horsa pictured in another photo with the location known. here is the other photo...
Neil, I think you will find discussion of the subject glider in the Elmira Horsa Glider thread beginning at post # 130. Not sure if there isn't additional discussion elsewhere. Charles
Neil, I found the original thread... It was "A new Normandy horsa wreck?" under the folder Air > American > Troop Carrier & Glider link: A new Normandy Horsa wreck? You were the original poster Neil... unfortunately the Photobucket mess removed the chalk 31 photo. John
With the location of Chalk #31 identified as being just north of St. Mere Eglise, I'm pretty positive that this Horsa was from the 436th Troop Carrier Group.
