Hi Just to introduce myself - we are an English family living in the small (60 inhabitants) village of Boutteville close to Set Mairie du Mont. Our house is clearly visible in many of the aerial photographs available, indeed many gliders landed close by and at least two in the field adjacent to our house. Any information on the locale would be gratefully received. Best wishes David Fincham
Bienvenue..... Hope you find some useful stuff here. Off topic, can your lot keep up this good start to the season, or is it going to fade? Cheers, Sean
Hi David and welcome to the forum! Some forum topics you might be interested in that are nearby the Boutteville area are the Airborne Forces file on "Msg John McCarthy's road to Lecaudey Farm", and also "New Reconnaissance Cover - Boutteville Area". In the Air Forces file under Troop carrier > "New NARA glider footage" and "Extracts from Looking down on War". These topics might help with information you are looking for and feel free to just jump right in with any questions you have. There are many researchers here who are more than willing to help. Cheers for the help. I can confirm that our property is the farm ringed in the GE screenshot in New Bars footage...
Hi David, You are indeed very welcome here on the Forum and I hope we may be able to help you with your research. I am not sure which screenshot you refer to - can you confirm that your property is the one circled yellow in the Google Earth extract below: If so, do you know if there was a fire at the property during the summer of 1944? Thanks, Pat
Yes that is the one - known as the hamlet of Fruelle. It actually consists of 4 properties, I will enquire locally about the fire. The old gentleman who is in his 90s is in a retirement home so I can enquire of him. I notice one of his outbuildings has part of a glider for a inner wall the star insignia is visible. The grand critique runs at the bottom of the field in front of us and I have identified the sites where 2 gliders landed.
