Hi All, I received Phil Nordyke's latest book 'American Heroes of World War II - Normandy June 6, 1944' a while back and have now completed the 453 page work. Phil is justifiably considered the foremost authority on the 82nd Airborne Division in World War II and his books on that division hold pride of place on my book case. This new book brings together for the first time full descriptions of the heroic actions of the men who made the Invasion of Normandy the success it became during the first few critical days. Some of the accounts have been told before, scattered across many different works but this is the first time all these descriptions and others never before told, have been brought together in one single work. The shear volume of research which went into this book is staggering and well up to the high standard by which we have come to know this author. The book is very well laid out with sections covering: 101st Airborne Division 82nd Airborne Division Utah Beach Pointe du Hoc Omaha Beach Appendix 1 - Medal of Honor Citations Appendix II - Distinguished Service Cross Citations The narrative is clear, concise and engaging, yet never lacking in detail - the true mark of a great author. Maps and diagrams are used throughout but the one thing which keeps the reader enveloped in the stories is the use of photographs showing the individuals under discussion. I know Phil has gone to great lengths to acquire as many photographs of his subjects as possible. This one aspect of the book has deeply impressed this reviewer. The book concludes with the all important index at the back where each recipient of an award is listed. A very great book - buy it! Regards, Pat
