Hi All, While looking at the B-26 scenes in the BP footage titled 'The Battered Docks Of Cherbourg' (BP Film #1362.10), I note the film editor has slipped in a sixteen second scene at time mark 01:58, showing a strike on a pair of road and rail river bridges. The narrator implies that the target is at the top end of the Cotentin Peninsula and is being attacked by Marauders. However, the aircraft in view is clearly an A-20 Havoc, not a Marauder... ...but where is the target? The small fields are certainly consistent with the Cotentin but there are no rivers of the size shown in the northern part of the peninsula to which the film narrator is referring :dodgy: This scene has been on my wanted list for some time now and it was only yesterday that I finally tracked down the location: The pair of bridges are not on the Cotentin, but are instead some 120 Kms south of Cherbourg on the La Selune River (see this Google Maps link). The curved line in the footage is now completely removed railway track and the straight line is the present day D976 road between the village of Virey and the town of Saint Hilaire du Harcouet Here is the location of still #127: A difficult three week hunt exasperated by the missing track and a clumsy attempt by BP at pointing us at the Cherbourg area Anyone have anything on A-20s in Normandy? It would be nice to track down the squadron and date. Topside invasion stripes would imply a date in June following D-Day. Regards, Pat
