Pat, As I mentioned in my PM to you last night, besides the upload limit (which you probably fixed by increasing it to 20), I think there is another system limitation that is coming into play. My December 2012 Lecaudy post is very big with lots of text and pictures. I tried to upload just one picture this morning as I did last night when the upload limit was only 10 photos. The edit attempt failed both times and I received the following alert: "Please enter a message with no more than 10000 characters." Is there another system setting that you can adjust to allow larger posts? If not, see if you can edit/modify that post as the administrator. Standing by... Kevin
Pat, Unfortunately, 15,000 is not enough. The MS Word file that I use as the source document for the post indicates that it contains 16,574 characters with spaces included (13,800 characters without the spaces.) I tried to upload a single photo and I received a "Please enter a message with no more than 15000 characters" error message. Can you go higher than 15K? Maybe temporarily make it 20K to provide some cushion and then dial it back down to 10K once I insert the photos. That project might take me a day or two to complete. Kevin
Pat, Success! As a test, I uploaded the first three photos in my Lecaudey post and I did not have any problems with the system accepting the changes. I'll work on the remaining 16 photos over the next couple of days. Some might have to be resized to get down to the 1mb limit. I'll let you know when the transition is complete. Are there any other system limitations out there that we might routinely encounter? Thanks for the help, Kevin
Hi Kevin, Glad to hear things are bedding down properly My only concern just now is to keep an eye on how much server space will be required by members who use the Upload File route to embed images in posts. Let me know if you need the 1MB file size limit extended or if you need images reduced in size. Regards, Pat
For Reference, I currently have the Control Panel > Home > Options > Attachments settings set as per this screenshot: Below are the current corresponding settings for Control Panel > Home > Options > Messages - 'Messages' by the way mean Posts in XenForo speak! If anyone needs a file type added to the 'Allowed Attachment File Extensions' list, or has problems which they believe may be due to any of the settings shown above, please let me know. Regards, Pat
Hi Pat, Thanks for your efforts in helping us to get our threads and posts back into some order. A question: Do you know if images stored on Photoshop can be uploaded directly to the forum, in much the same way as we could earlier with PB? I am finding that a number of images that I had on PB are now missing. I do think I have most of them on thumb drives, and have been able to slowly reload images onto the Elmira Horsa Glider thread. This will take a good bit of time, and I am thinking that I might prefer to use Photoshop for future posting, if that is available. Any thoughts? Charles
Hi Charles, I suspect you are not referring to Photoshop in the context of image storage. This product is a high end image editing package and nothing to do with image storage - unless Adobe have added some form of 'Cloud' storage to it recently. If it is an image editing product you are seeking, try the free GIMP software instead, as Photoshop is both expensive (monthly fees now!) and has a steep learning curve. However, if as I suspect, you are referring to image storage, then the simplest thing to do with your images is to copy them from the USB sticks you have them on presently onto a dedicated folder on your PC's hard drive. Organise them into sub-folders by either thread name or date and then simply use the new 'Upload File' button to bring them into the threads you wish to edit/add to. Here is a screenshot showing the top end of of the sub-folders in my 'Normandy' folder: Does this answer your query? Regards, Pat
Yes Pat, your response is helpful. I was not aware that Photoshop now has monthly fees. If GIMP has a decent editing program, I will go with that. As for storage, moving images from the thumb drives to folders will provide a good opportunity to improve their organization. While I had never used the forum's editing feature on any of my postings, I am getting used to the process now, and am moving along a little faster than I thought I would. Thanks much, Charles
