I recently saw this colourised picture on Twitter... It's described as having been near to Tilly-sur-Seulles... And I wondered - haphazardly if the Tac square might have been originally "yellow" There seems to be a 52 on one tank and a 54 on another. Not sure if this picture is well known? I'd expect it to be. It's a pity that it was not originally better described and referenced but I'd still like to figure out what I can about it if anything is currently known? All the best, Rm.
Its obviously a wreck collection point/scrapyard so they are not where they were knocked out. Note the light post at left (infra-red lane markers?)and see the same style in this pic THE POLISH ARMY IN THE NORMANDY CAMPAIGN, 1944 The stowage pattern with gun cradle matches to this Polish tank I would say the same Polish Unit and thus August
The photo of the 3 Shermans is a French Postcard and appears now and then on Postcard Collectors sites. I was checking my other pics of scrapyards and I found this: The Sherman at right is the same as the LH Sherman in the original photo. The 'W' white mark on the rear plate is to designate it as scrap.
Consulted a higher authority and this is a scrapyard at Couvrechef July 1944 photos-no Shermans directly behind the 3 Panthers. Note the upturned Panther. Click the yellow dot at right: # 1946 view: Remonter le temps The 3 Panthers are there and there are 3 overturned Shermans behind them. The light appear to be normal floodlighting. I still believe they are Polish Sherman V from TOTALIZE
