Hello to the admins & forum. I'm a British writer, living in the Val de Saire, Normandy. I came across the forum while researching the US squadron who were first into my town on June 21 1944. A fascinating thread came up in answer to my googling of the VII Corps initial HQ on French soil and I realised that there's a lot of expertise around here that I'd like to tap into for my own research. I'm in the early phase of amassing detail on the 4th Cavalry Group's 24th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, Mechanized, to make a book proposal next year and to create a website as a memorial to a unit that remains relatively unknown among the wider public, but who I think played an outsize role in the liberation of Europe. As a rookie in geolocation I'll probably be asking many more questions than contributing insights, but I can see that there's a good spirit of curiosity and generosity among the members, so I'm looking forward to learning a lot. If anyone is interested to know more about my project there is a FB page here, a Patreon page here and because I'm yet to find a publisher (and recently lost my work) a GoFundMe here (which provides a good introduction to why I'm doing this). Because the squadron was attached to various units in Normandy and after, I'm sure that the work of others will often be relevant. It's even possible that I will find nuggets for my project here. For example, Troop B of the squadron came ashore from the Île du Large on June 8 to protect VII Corps HQ and I've scoured the photos on that thread to see if they appear anywhere. Thanks, Mike
