    Hi,

I just received an e-mail from someone who was searching for the landing spot of a Waco CG-4A glider from the Chicago mission.

The glider was piloted by 71st TCS F/O's Allen and Bauman and had chalk number 21.
    They landed nar a bridge.

At this moment, that's all I have. Have asked for more details, but wanted to start this up now.

    Hans

    Hi Hans,

Philippe Esvelin in his book 'D-Day Gliders' states on page 87:

Your two pilots are confirmed as the crew of chalk #21:

    • F/O David R. Allen (T-120694) Pilot
    • F/O Harrison M. Bauman (T-1066) Co-Pilot
As far as I am aware and from looking at the three known 'Chicago' Wacos at Chateau de Vierville, these gliders were not marked with chalk numbers - at least not of a size that shows on available ground photos.

    Regards,

    Pat

Didn't get new info from US, unfortunately.
