A special thanks to John Szweda who I made contact with thru a military forum. John was kind enough to help me with some research on my cousin 1st Lt. Waverly W. Wray of D Co. 2nd Bat. 505th PIR 82nd A/B WWII. Wray made all four jumps of the 82nd during the war but was killed on the fourth during the Market Garden Operation. John referred me to this forum.....thanks again John. I live in Batesville, MS and own an Insurance Agency. I am a military collector as well as a military history buff. I enjoy traveling to many of the Militaria Shows across the country. I have studied Wray's military life as well as his personal life for many years. I was brought up hearing stories from my grandmother as well as my dad about Waverly. Thank you all.
Hi Ronnie, Welcome aboard the forum! I hope the many researchers here can help you with any information we can, and I hope to continue our discussion on my theory of Waverly Wrays actions at Sainte-mere-Eglise and include the others input. Respectfully, John Szweda
Hi Ronnie, You are very welcome to the Forum. Please feel free to request help with your research on your famous cousin. It sure would be great to come near establishing the route taken by Waverly during his famous action north of Sainte-Mère-Église. Did he by chance take any pictures when he was in Normandy? Regards, Pat
Pat the only photos I have are from Sicily and England. I do have one of Wray with O.B. Carr and McLean but I don't know where it was made. There is also a photo in the Regimental History that I think is Waverly.
