    Hi All,

Here is the route you need to take to download FREE IGN cover:

    Go to www.geoportail.gouv.fr/accueil

    1) Wait for the site to fully load:

    2) In the top left of the map window, type in the name of a town close to your AoI and hit [Enter]. Be aware that some towns in France share the same name (e.g, Sainte Marie du Mont):

    3) I typed in 'Carentan' in the example below and the map zoomed to the town - note the orange circle with the dot in the middle - this is your map window centre point:

    4) Drag the map window to your AoI (in my example, my 'preferred' Ballintine Field), then zoom back out to 'dept' on the scale slider. Click the 'Remonter le Temps' button at top right of the map window:

    5) From the drop down menu which then appears, choose the 'Leas Prises de Vues Aeriennes' option (not always 3rd on the list!):

    6) From the 'Missions' dialogue box, choose your date; I picked 01/01/1969 here. Note the small, round markers which appear (circled red on screenshot No. 6 below. Hover your mouse pointer over the one closest to your AoI and an outline of the photograph will appear (box shaded orange below):

    7) Click the orange marker and from the resulting popup menu, choose 'Telecharger l'Image':

    8) Your browser then asks you if you want to open the photograph in your default image editor/viewer (in my case, Photoshop CS3) or if you want to just save the file to your hard drive. I chose the latter in the example below. Note the photographs are in a format called 'JPEG 2000' with a file extension showing .jp2. Your image editor/viewer needs to be able to handle this file type, which is an enhanced version of the older .jpg (I had to download a plugin for PS CS3 before I could open these files):

Generally, the file name will have the date on which the photograph was taken - a handy feature; for example:

    IGNF_PVA_1-0__1969-07-15__C1312-0011_1969_F1312-1313_0052.jp2

Please be aware that these files are the property of IGN and should not be used on a commercial basis without permission.

    Happy hunting ;)

    Regards,

    Pat

    Hello all,

Is anyone else having problems with the IGN site currently?
At the moment (at least for me) when opting for vues aƩriennes, the orange markers aren't appearing.
I've checked and double checked over areas where I'd previously got images, and it still doesn't work.

The two different map options work fine, it's just the photo option which doesn't.

    Confirmation or help gratefully received.

    Thanks,

    Sean

    Thanks Niels,

I was wondering if there was a quota I'd exceeded or something:s

    Hi Sean,

Confirmed here too; no markers. I have quite a few from 1947 saved to disk. What area are you looking for?

    Regards,

    Pat
