Hi List, Here is a 'live' demo on how to order a National Collection of Aerial Photograph (NCAP) paid search. (Note - If you are able to travel to Edinburgh, Scotland, you can do the search yourself for free). A paid search will cost £15 per unit of 15 minutes. First, you need to create a JPG or PNG image file of a Google Earth screenshot: 1) In Google Earth press the [r] key to rotate view to true north 2) Select your angle of view (zoom level) to include at least one town or village 3) Press Ctrl + Alt + C to copy the window view to the Clipboard 4) Open a new document in your image editing program 5) Press Ctrl + V to insert the GE window view 6) Mark your Area of Interest (AoI) and Coordinates 7) Save the document to your hard drive as a JPG or PNG file In this case, we are requesting a search of the area where T/Sgt Shimko and his 12 man mortar squad from 2/325th GIR landed in a stray Waco flown by Lt. Rendelman and an unknown co-pilot. Thanks to Patrick providing the co-ordinates, we know the glider came down in the eastern corner of the field indicated in the GE screenshot below: OK, so now we have the search image ready to upload as part of the ordering process. Proceed to the paid search order form on the NCAP site here: http://ncap-sales.rcahms.gov.uk/shop/image_sales/tara_paid_search_service.php Read the instructions at the top of the page and then proceed to fill out tab '1) Paid Search Enquiry' on the order form: Note the first field titled 'Geographic Area' is where you browse to the GE screenshot file you created and saved on your computer's hard drive. Fill out the relevant remaining fields on tab 1, taking particular care to set a time limit on the search duration - remember each 15 minutes of search time (or part thereof) will cost you £15+VAT :exclamation: Move on to tab '2) Your Details' and check the 'Personal' option at the top. Fill out your contact details including phone number(s) and email address: Double check both tabs and then click the 'Apply for Paid Search Report' button at the bottom of tab 2. If everything is good with your order, your web browser will display the following message: An automated email acknowledging your order should also arrive in your inbox within a few minutes: Within two or three working days a licence agreement will be emailed to you. You must accept the terms & conditions and pay the prescribed fee. Only then will the search commence and the results should have arrived via a PDF Search Report within ten working days or thereabout. The report will show low resolution versions of all frames found for your date window and prescribed search duration. You should be aware that if no cover is found for your location, date window and prescribed search time duration, you will still be charged for the time taken to establish this fact! I'll add more as the search progresses through these stages. Regards, Pat
Hi All, The next step in the ordering process is to accept the licence agreement which is emailed to the customer as a PDF document. Here is the email I received on Monday last: Proceed via the link in the email to the shopping cart and log in. The first screen allows you to accept the licence agreement: You must tick the box circled red above to indicate you have read the terms and conditions of the licence agreement emailed to you. Next you are taken to the payments page: ...and finally, confirmation following payment that your order is being prepared: OK, now the NCAP team goes to work on your search. We should have the results via a Photo Finder Report PDF in about 10 working days. We can sit back and wait... Regards, Pat
Hi All, Kevin in NCAP has sent me some revised links for this tutorial to reflect updated pages on their site. This revision is now included above. He has also forwarded this set of instructions for creating a GE polygon for the creation of a Area of Interest (AoI) kmz file: Regards, Pat
