Hi! My name is Patricia Scoggins. I live in Georgia and am honored to be a member! My 90 year old uncle was a member of : 29th Infantry Division / 116th Regiment / 3rd Battalion / Company I and was in the second wave that landed on Omaha Beach. D-Day was a subject that he couldn't talk about for years without getting very emotional. (His most vivid memory is of the bodies on the beach when he landed.) Many years ago my son was majoring in history and wanted to interview my uncle, but was concerned he might not be able to talk about it. Fortunately, my uncle agreed to do it and although it wasn't easy for him, we have his first-hand experience on dvd. It seems the more I learn about Normandy, the more I want to know. The more answers I get, the more questions I have. I'll greatly appreciate any information anyone may have about my uncle's company. Thanks!
Hi Patricia, You are very welcome to the Forum and we look forward to working with you in your quest for further knowledge of the 116th IR in Normandy. I would suggest opening a new thread in the Research Currently Underway > Ground Forces > American section of the Forum. If you have a photograph of your uncle it would be great to see it in the thread. Let me know if you need help posting that or any other images. Regards, Pat
Welcome aboard Patricia Prior to D-Day the US 29th Infantry Division was based in Cornwall in the far south-west of the UK where I live. You might find these sites of interest as we still have things remaining from those days http://www.flickr.com/photos/balliolman/sets/72157600025551078/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxRx6O9ik7M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIjVNCUvjXI Allan
